The Boss is on Vacation

Recently it seems I have blogged more about work than anything else; well at least in the last few posts. Shows how interesting my life is right now! I like what I do and some of the people I work with but I really think my boss needs to go. Our Executive Director is a 73 year old man that simply needs to retire. Really, he is losing it! He can't remember shit and doesn't listen to most of what anyone in the office says or thinks. He yells at staff and its his way or no way. He makes up numbers to report to politicians on how great the Center is and how many students and programs we have. Isn't this illegal? Most of us think yes, but as he puts it everyone inflates numbers to look better and get more state funding (its all about the money) so must he. The funny thing is other Centers like ours don't inflate their numbers. Oh yea and he is a big fat chauvinistic pig too. All money matters have to go through him and usually we get raises on our yearly anniversaries. The people that work at the front desk answering the phones and helping customers are all part-time and work on a rotating schedule. We are open from 7am until 10pm Monday through Friday and 7am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. My 2 "star" employees work the weekday shifts and are absolutely wonderful. Both college girls and when it was time for their raises he said give them an additional .50 an hour. My nighttime guy, who is an older retired man himself , just reached is yearly anniversary time and the boss said give him a full $1 an hour. Now you tell me how this is fair. All of them have worked here for the same amount of time. The nighttime guy does a good job but I can only give him so much before he simply can't handle the stress; the girls on the other hand are constantly taking on extra jobs and pitching in where needed. The worst part is the boss knows all of this and still chooses to give his peer the better raise. In the end everyone was compensated equally. So yes this all sucks and so does he, but do you want to hear the good news? Well the title of this post is it. He is on vacation and out of the office starting today and will not be back until October 27! Yea for a few days of peace.
